What do I need to do if I want to play racquetball?
If you have never played racquetball or have for many years, and you would like some friendly competition against other high school players, then this is for you. The cost to play is around $150.00 which includes league fees, coaching fees, uniform, and sweatshirt. You will also need to buy your own racquet, shoes, goggles, and glove. Prices vary on these items, but we can help you get discounts or loan you team gear until you are able to get your own.
This league is open to both boys and girls, which can play singles, doubles, and/or mixed doubles. I'm looking for about 20 dedicated players to make up two teams of 10. Each team will play singles at the four regular season Saturday tournaments. The tournaments are usually all day (about 6 hours) and are held at various local athletic clubs in Portland and Salem. Each player on the team will play singles, usually about 4-6 games. Depending on the amount and make up of the team, six players can go on to play doubles-boys, girls and mixed (2 boys, 2 girls, and 1 boy and girl). Each player will earn ranking points for winning and lose ranking points for losing. Also team points will be earned on how each player does at the tournament and for winning doubles.
We are a non-profit league and volunteers are greatly needed. The TuHS racquetball team can not function without the help of our parent volunteers. If you can, please let me know of you can help! I usually need a couple of parents to run the other team at tournaments, this is a very easy job. Also each team needs to have a "dedicated" parent volunteer to help out at one tournament. This is typically another very easy job. I'm greatly appreciate any and all help.

This last year it will be Tues/Thurs from 7-9 pm. This changes each year depending on Club Sport. I can't drive to practice! You will have to figure out your own transportation to practice, have a parent/guardian give you a ride, or sign a waiver to have another parent/player give you a ride. Or use public transportation.
When are the tournaments?
They are 4 regular season tournaments. One in Nov, two in December and one in January. They are pretty much all day on Saturday. Each player will play singles, which can be 3-6 games. A few players will go on to play doubles, which is another 1-5 games. |
Who can play?Anybody in high school.....both boys and girls
When do I sign up/try out?Late Sept/early Oct...check with Mr. Youngberg in Room #30. I don't do try outs, but instead do a first-come-first serve basis. At the mandatory parent/player meeting I hand out the official forms. The first 20 players to fill out the forms and make payment will be on the team. Bring a check book to the meeting if you are really serious about playing. I'll accept a copy of a sports physical late but will need it before the first tournament.
I don't have a gym membershipIt's ok, currently Club Sport is donating time for us to practice.
Where do I get gear/racquets?Players is a great place in Beaverton & Lake Grove. We can help you with this, just ask. They usually give the high school team a discount.
After I sign up, then what? There will be a mandatory parent/player meeting in October to explain the season, discuss forms and fees, and share information. Please attend. You can always back out if there is a conflict.
